Reddit in the B2B Social Media Mix: Our Experience with Technical Target Groups

Reddit still plays only a minor role in many B2B social media strategies. At B2B Interactive, however, we are increasingly observing that the platform is becoming more relevant for technical target groups, especially in areas such as IT, cybersecurity, cloud, AI, or electronics. At the same time, Reddit campaigns are currently performing very well both nationally and internationally.

While many B2B companies focus almost exclusively on LinkedIn, discussions on Reddit are often far more direct and technical. Technical communities in particular actively use the platform for:

  • tool comparisons
  • infrastructure topics
  • security discussions
  • practical experience
  • concrete problem-solving

This is exactly why Reddit is becoming increasingly relevant from our perspective within the B2B social media mix.

“Especially within technical target groups, we see that Reddit is often much closer to real discussions and concrete problem-solving than traditional business platforms. At the same time, the platform is also becoming increasingly relevant in the context of AI and data-driven technologies. This makes Reddit more and more interesting for advertisers in the B2B environment.”

Sebastian Hurtado, Senior Campaign Manager at B2B Interactive

Less Gloss, More Relevance

One major difference compared to platforms like LinkedIn is that Reddit functions far less through self-presentation or traditional corporate communication.

Users often discuss topics very directly, such as:

  • real challenges
  • specific tools
  • experiences with technologies
  • infrastructure problems
  • security topics

This also changes the requirements for campaigns and creatives. Traditional advertising language, buzzwords, or overly polished content often perform significantly worse on Reddit than on other platforms.

Reddit as an Addition to the B2B Social Media Mix

At B2B Interactive, we therefore do not use Reddit as a replacement for LinkedIn or traditional B2B channels, but rather as a targeted addition within a cross-channel B2B social media mix.

The platform becomes particularly interesting when:

  • technical target groups are highly specific
  • traditional social ads are losing attention
  • complex topics need to be communicated
  • relevant reach needs to be built

Thanks to its community structure, content can often be placed much more precisely in technically relevant environments.

Particularly Relevant Communities in the Technical Environment

Especially in the tech sector, there are numerous active communities with high technical relevance. The most active communities are found in areas such as:

Many of these communities deal daily with topics that are also relevant for B2B companies, ranging from infrastructure and cloud to AI and security.

Conclusion

Reddit is not a classic mainstream B2B channel, and that is exactly what makes the platform interesting for many technical target groups.

From our perspective, the performance of campaigns is particularly exciting. Reddit repeatedly reports strong click-through and visibility rates, especially within highly specialized communities. For complex B2B topics in particular, the platform can therefore become an interesting addition within a cross-channel B2B social media mix.
